In order to conduct our research, and so as to provide easy access by the scientific community to the rich ecosystems of the cordilleras-Amazon transitional zone, Mathieu Chouteau (CEFE - CNRS) and Melanie McClure (MNHN - CNRS) built and managed a research station in Peru. This station was built in 2011, currently employs two full time assistants, two part-time assistants, and provides the necessary conditions for research on aposematic and mimetic organisms: laboratory space, numerous large insectaries (20+), terrariums (40+), host plants, rearing space and logistical help with the success of research projects (research permits, exportation, transportation, guides, etc,). The successful implementation and management of this research centre is attracting professors, graduate and undergraduate students from International Universities, and Institutes (totalizing 60% of the year)
Exciting news!!!: The new poison dart frogs facility at the Tarapoto Research Centre Early 2018, a brand new poison dart frogs research facility consisting of hundred of terrariums, climate control and rearing facilities was constructed at the INIBICO NGO. This facility is dedicated to scientific research on amphibians and will soon be made available to other researchers around the world. This is an exciting time for frog research in Peru! Such accomplishment was only possible thanks to the precious help and dedication of Josh Richard, the help from Mario Tuatanama, Vincent Prémel, Anais Larue and Henri Vera, the generous support of both poison dart frogs enthusiasts around the world and finally from the commitment of the INIBICO NGO (Thank you Marco Leon, Henri Delgado and Rainer Schulte). Here a video of the facility. |
